Preparation for English and Academic Proficiency Examinations for the LPI

Program Description

The Language Proficiency Index (LPI) assesses the reading and writing proficiency of prospective and current students for entrance into academic programs, some vocational programs or first-year English courses. The subject content of the program is framed around LPI testing.

The objective of the program is to assist students to gain the skills and knowledge in preparation for the LPI test.

Admission Requirements

Applicants who wish to qualify as domestic students must produce valid documentation confirming their legal status as Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Applicants who are classified as International students must meet the requirements for international students studying in Canada as laid down by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. Language Requirement: An official IELTS practice test is used to determine proficiency and course placement (minimum 3). Alternatively the student may be currently enrolled in a regular school where English is the language of instruction (min grade 10).

Upon completion of this program, students will have advanced their skills and knowledge in preparation for the LPI test.

  • Improving knowledge, skills and the practice of grammar in writing including sentence structure and English usage;
  • Improving knowledge, skills and the practice of writing a clear and coherent essay.

Method(s) of Evaluation*

Instructors will provide ongoing formative assessment throughout the course.

Completion Requirements*

There is no graduation per se. Students need to complete 80% of the instructional hours and pass 70% of the assessments (or related requirements) to receive a certificate of completion.

Program Duration

The Course is 48 hours/12 weeks in total.

Students can start a course at the beginning a new topic area (generally every one or two weeks).
